Admissions Overview
The British School of Monaco warmly welcomes applications from families who subscribe to our Mission and Values, and who are looking for an English language education in line with the English National Curriculum.
We have an open admissions policy, accepting students without regard to race, ethnicity or gender, in a spirit of fairness and equality. We will accept students with mild to moderate learning needs, chronic health conditions, and students who have limited English language acquisition.
However, in allocating places, The British School of Monaco is mindful of:
- The school being able to meet the individual needs of the student
- The welfare and safety of all students who attend the school
- The mix and balance of students already admitted to a particular class or year group
- The school’s ability to provide any additional support required
The British School of Monaco invites all prospective parents and their children to visit us (in person where possible) prior to application, so that they may familiarise themselves with the school’s core values and philosophy, and to be sure that the programme on offer is the right fit for their child.
We strongly encourage visits during term time so that parents can observe the learning going on and get an accurate feel for the life of the school.
The British School of Monaco will normally have a maximum number of sixteen students for each class.
In the case of classes being oversubscribed, The British School of Monaco will apply the following admission priorities:
- Applicants with siblings already in the school (subject to the usual admission criteria).
- Students who live in Monaco.
- Returning former students.
The British School of Monaco may register students at any time of the year at its discretion, subject to space availability, and provided that the student can successfully integrate into the class and complete the academic year.
Placement of Students
Students will be placed in the year group (class) according to their age.
Re-enrolment
It is assumed that a student will remain enrolled, year on year. However re-enrolment each year will be dependent on the family’s adherence to the school’s Attendance Policy, successful completion of the academic year and satisfactory behaviour in keeping with our values and expectations. In the event that, for any reason, the School is no longer able to meet the needs of the student, this will be discussed with parents well in advance.
The British School of Monaco will not accept any financial inducement, donations or rewards of any kind, offered in connection to the admission of a student to the school.
Any attempt to influence the school’s decision by personal approaches to school governors or staff is firmly discouraged. Such attempts may result in an application being withdrawn by the school.
Admissions Process
Our Admissions Process takes a comprehensive approach to student registration; everything we do during this process is designed to provide families with a personalised experience. This is to ensure that we have a comprehensive understanding of the family and the child, and that parents are able to make an informed choice of school placement for their child.
The process is normally as follows:
Enquiry
- The family makes contact via phone, walk-in or web form.
Application
- The family is invited to meet with the school founders and familiarise themselves with the school’s Mission, Vision and Values and the programmes on offer.
- The family completes the application form and submits all required documents, with the Application Fee.
Assessment
- Applicants are invited to undertake admissions assessment and interview, appropriate to their age.
- The Admissions Team reviews the application.
- The family is advised of the outcome of the application. In the event that we are unable to accept a student, the Director’s decision will be final.
Registration of accepted students
- Parents are notified that a place has been allocated pending payment of the one time Registration Fee. An Enrolment Agreement, together with an invoice for tuition fees will follow, and once these are fully paid, the applicant is fully enrolled.
We may withdraw the offer of a school place if information relating to your child is withheld at any point (before, during or after the application process). Please ensure that you provide us with all the relevant information concerning your child.
Should a student leave the school and the family subsequently wishes to return, a new application for a place will need to be made.
Further information will be provided ahead of the start of term to ensure students and families are prepared and welcomed into the school.
Fees
The British School of Monaco operates a transparent and simplified fee structure.
Application Fee
Fee: €375 per student
Following initial enquiries, parents are invited to make a formal application. At this stage, an Application Fee is payable. This Application Fee covers the costs of the application process and is non-refundable*
Registration Fee
Fee: €2,250 per student
A successful candidate progresses from the application stage to the registration stage. Upon payment of the Registration Fee, the student will be registered with the school and a place reserved. The Registration Fee is non-refundable
Tuition Fee
Fee: €37,500 per student, per annum
The Tuition Fee is payable in two instalments.
- Instalment 1: due seven days after the payment of the Registration Fee 40% of the Tuition Fee – €15,000 per student
- Instalment 2: due one calendar month** after the payment date for Instalment 1 (or by the start of term, whichever is sooner) 60% of the Tuition Fee – €22,500 per student
Only when the total fees have been paid, by the date expected, will the student be permitted to attend the school. The Tuition Fee stated above is for the full school year and includes:
- Tuition costs
- Stationery
- School lunches
- Learning materials
- In-school technology and learning technology access
- School trips in Monaco
The Application Fee and Registration Fee are per student and are one-off fees. Subsequent re-applications in any future years will again incur an Application Fee and Registration Fee at the prevailing rate.
Tuition Fees are per student, per year.
Fees applicable for students joining mid year are available on request.
Additional fees may be charged for musical instrument lessons and some extracurricular and enrichment activities. Additional learning support which may be required above and beyond standard lessons and learning will be charged on an individual basis.
Following registration and admission, there may be occasions when a teacher raises a concern as to a student’s performance, leading to the need to assess the student for special educational needs or similar. In this context, the school will work closely with parents to ensure the individual needs of the student are met. This may include a need for assessment by external agencies and further/extended support in the classroom. If this is the case, parents will be required to pay further fees for this provision.
